We are facing the forces of a very real tyranny. Big Tech’s utter disdain for free speech and their threat of cancel culture is now standing at OUR door and staring right into our faces!
– The Turley Talks YouTube channel faced demonetization due to alleged harmful content, resulting in significant financial losses and censorship concerns.
– Despite being denied monetization indefinitely, Google continues to profit from ads on their videos.
– To combat this, Turley Talks launched its own platform, offering free access to videos and exclusive content through their app where supporters can join various support levels for perks like live Q&A sessions and exclusive meetups.
Back in November, the Turley Talks Youtube channel got a notice from Google and YouTube telling us that our channel had been completely demonetized. The channel can’t even get superchats enabled on livestreams because Youtube fully demonitized it. YouTube insisted that Turley Talks take down a number of news videos we had up that failed to offer any unique commentary associated with them.
We had a number of shorts that featured quick one minute scenes of woke protestors who were blocking off streets and angry motorists getting out of their cars to throw them to the side. YouTube was concerned about the channel using the content from other news channels but without the requisite unique commentary that would justify that use. It’s not clear what the problem is here, because Turley Talks is a news and politics channel and all of these events were filmed not from a media satellite truck, but from people’s smartphones.
The channel did not take anything that is specific to any news media outlet, but regardless, Dr. Steve took down the videos. This wasn’t easy because YouTube actually doesn’t tell you what videos you have to delete, they just inform you of an infraction and then you have to use your best judgment as to which videos fall under that infraction. The penalty was 3 months of no monetization whatsoever.
Three months passed, and Dr. Steve reapplied for monetization. He was excited to see that he got an immediate response, but the only reply was that Youtube would get back to him in a month. Almost exactly a month later, he got a response. The Turley Talks Youtube channel has been once again rejected for monetization, but this time the stated reason was because our channel features ‘harmful content.’
Youtube defines harmful content as ‘content that focuses on CONTROVERSIAL issues and that is harmful to viewers.’ There are some tech experts who believe this could be something much scarier than just your typical Big Tech censorship. There is the very real possibility that we are dealing with a dangerously overzealous AI programmed to act in the “best interests” of this mega cap corporation.
Google is still running ads on our videos. They denounced our content as harmful to their audience, but they continue to run ads on those very videos they denounced. Based on estimates from the Turley Talks team, they will make over $3 million this year on our channel alone, keeping all the revenue themselves. As we learned from the Twitterfiles, we could very possibly be seeing state-sponsored censorship deliberately trying to keep you from seeing conservative content in an election year. Isn’t it interesting that all of this is happening to Dr. Steve NOW?
Dr. Steve is, as of now, indefinitely completely demonetized. This demonetization is costing us over $1.4 million in revenue that goes into funding our entire Turley Talks team.
