Dr. Phil was recently on the leftwing David Pakman show to plug his latest book: We’ve Got Issues: How You Can Stand Strong for America’s Soul and Sanity.’ You would think that with a title like that, there’s a WHOLE LOT of common ground, but of course, the left disagrees with standing for America’s soul and sanity.
– Dr. Phil recently faced backlash for expressing concerns about the breakdown of the family, with some labeling him as “right-wing” for standing up for traditional values.
– The left’s embrace of the idea that gender is separate from biology creates contradictions when advocating for transgender rights while simultaneously denying biological differences.
– The prevalence of censorship and denial of reality, such as the denial of the censorship itself, highlights the partisan polarization not only of America’s values but also of truth itself.
For at least some on the political left, standing strong for America’s soul and sanity is now considered right-wing. The video was ominously titled: ‘Dr Phil CONFRONTED: You are a right-winger!’ The left has politicized our society to the point that standing strong for America’s soul and sanity is now considered far-right.
What Dr. Phil just said is hardly controversial. Both sides, left and right, have concluded that the breakdown of the family is the most significant factor for the breakdown in society. In the Black community, the illegitimacy rate is now over 70% today. The poverty rate among Blacks is 37%, but if they’re married and working, it’s only 8% if one member is working, and 5% if both husband and wife are working. This is comparable to the poverty rate of whites. Black or white children raised without a dad in a single-parent home are 5x more likely to be poor and commit crimes, 9x more likely to drop out of school, and 20x more likely to end up in jail.
Dr Phil is right to be concerned about the state of the family and its deleterious effects on culture. But how do you explain that to someone who doesn’t even know what a woman is? How do you explain the cultural consequences of the breakdown of the family to someone who doesn’t even believe there’s an objective definition of the family?
Leftists do not want to talk about biology, especially in light of what Dr. Phil is saying about the family. We have an entire woke industry mired in the contradiction of both denying and at the same time affirming basic historic biology. We are living today with a leftwing that has embraced the notion that gender transcends biology and that a woman biologically defined is fundamentally different from a woman culturally defined in terms of identity. And yet they are also advocates for kids to be able to go through transition surgeries that realign their bodies and biology, with their preferred gender identity which negates the first assertion that biology and identity have nothing to do with each other.
This interview eventually turned to the problem of cancel culture. The University of London scholar Eric Kaufmann recently published a very important study back in 2021 that detailed the frightening increase in political censorship on college campuses experienced by faculty members. Kaufmann found in the surveys that he conducted, nearly 50% of US and Canadian academics would not hire a Trump supporter. And 1 in 3 British academics would not hire a Brexit supporter.
Moreover, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education maintains a database of the growing trend to deplatform and disinvite conservative academics to university campuses. Since the year 2000, disinvitations and deplatformings among conservative academics surged to nearly 200 incidents, and they’ve been increasingly getting worse. Moreover, the National Association of Scholars maintains a database of primarily American academics who have experienced campaigns calling for their dismissal. This found that while there were only 4 incidents of such in 2015 and 2016, it rose to a whopping 65 in 2020.
Across the pond, a report by Civitas in December 2020 discovered that over half (53%) of all 137 British universities experienced demands for censoring speech around alleged “transphobic” episodes. The fact that anyone can even remotely deny this is happening further demonstrates that it’s not just America’s soul and sanity that’s been partisanized, it’s truth itself!
