Vivek Ramaswamy recently suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination and endorsed President Donald J. Trump. He is now calling for American lawmakers to disclose whether or not they hold dual citizenship.
Amidst the flurry of legislation rushed through Capitol Hill to authorize foreign aid to countries on the other side of the world, an increasing number of Americans share Ramaswamy’s views. They believe that if a lawmaker has allegiance to a country beyond America, they should be compelled to make it public.
Every year, billions of dollars are added to America’s national debt through the disbursement of foreign aid, whether to Ukraine, Israel, or some third-world country you’ve never heard of. Foreign entities are filling their coffers with the money of the American taxpayer. In fact, the founding fathers likely never contemplated the idea that a sitting U.S. legislator could simultaneously hold citizenship in another country, and in some cases, a country that opposes everything America stands for.
Vivek Ramaswamy clarified his position, stating:
“It’s reasonable to ask Congressmen to make personal financial disclosures so we know if they have conflicts of interest in the policies they support. It’s also reasonable to require disclosure of whether they’re dual citizens of a foreign nation. Neither should be controversial.”

George Santos also chimed in on the issue, saying:
“For the record, I’m a dual citizen, and I only pledge allegiance to the USA. I was born to foreigners in America and was granted dual citizenship with Brazil at birth. It’s nothing more than a diplomatic convenience, and it will never be a priority for me. USA!”
For the record I’m a dual citizen and I only pledge allegiance to the USA.
I was born to foreigners in America and I was granted the courtesy of dual citizenship with Brazil at birth.
It’s nothing more than a diplomatic convenience and will never be a priority for me.
USA!…

Whether or not legislation that requires such requirements for legislators to disclose that kind of information succeeds, it goes without saying that the foreign interests and powerful lobbies of Washington D.C. will do everything in their power to fight against it.
