The ultra-leftist mainstream media is suddenly worried about cancel culture. We are going to see why the leftwing activists disguised as journalists in the legacy media are now up in arms that so many liberal influencers are getting canceled, and we’re going to see why all of this was completely predictable and inevitable. The left will always ultimately cancel itself.
– Fallout from the Israeli-Hamas conflict has led to internal strife within the woke left.
– CEOs and business leaders demand that Harvard University release the names of students who signed a letter blaming Israel for the conflict, to blacklist them.
– The Washington Post, which previously defended cancel culture, now opposes it as cancel culture affects left-wing activists.
We are seeing yet another outworking of the continued fallout from the Israeli-Hamas war. The woke left is unraveling as part of the fallout from the war. We almost immediately watched pro-Palestinian sympathizers and pro-Israeli apologists on the left begin to lob verbal bombs at one another. Astonishingly, we saw the president of the ADL, Jonathan Greenblatt, who many consider to be the king of woke cancel culture, on MSNBC accusing his fellow leftists of having Hamas write their scripts.
Last week, leftist after leftists were taking their fellow leftists to task, either accusing them of siding with Hamas terrorists or Zionist occupiers. Now we have another development in that liberal leftist civil war. Woke leftists are starting to get canceled. At the ultra-leftist MSNBC, it is being widely reported that three of their anchors, the utterly insufferable Mehdi Hasan, Ayman Mohieddine, and Ali Velshi, all Muslims, were ‘quietly taken out of the anchor’s chair since Hamas’ attack on Israel!’ This is astonishing.
According to Semafor, MSNBC did not air a scheduled Thursday night episode of “The Mehdi Hasan Show,” they dropped a plan for Mohieddine to anchor Joy Reid’s show on Thursday and Friday, and, according to reports, Velshi was replaced by another anchor for his weekend shows. MSNBC has been pushing back against this, saying it was all a matter of coincidence. The changes in scheduling were merely coincidental and had nothing to do with the anchors’ sympathies for Hamas or the Palestinians. These far-left anchors just got canceled.
MSNBC just canceled voices on the ultra-left. Our woke universities, which have been up until now, the epicenter of woke cancel culture against the political right, are now beginning to cancel themselves. A few days back, Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer resigned from the executive board of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government in protest against the University’s president’s inaction in response to a student organization’s solidarity with Hamas. Billionaire hedge fund CEO Bill Ackman and several other business leaders are demanding Harvard University release the names of students whose organizations signed on to a letter blaming solely Israel for the deadly attacks by Hamas.
These CEOs want the students permanently blacklisted from corporate America, and the students are freaking out. Many of them have recanted and distanced themselves from the letter. But it’s not just Harvard, and it’s not just students. A Stanford University professor was just indefinitely suspended after university officials discovered that he had publicly called out Jewish students on campus as ‘colonizers’ and in turn justified the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas, referring to them as ‘freedom fighters.’
These examples are just the tip of the iceberg of the massive backlash that has erupted against so many on the woke left. The cancel backlash is so severe that the ultra-woke Washington Post, after years of shamelessly defending and shilling for cancel culture, is now openly against it. Now that cancel culture is taking out activists on the left, the shameless shills at the Washington Post are coming out as opposed to the very cancel culture they have up until now been defending. Newsbusters said it best, ‘The Washington Post has routinely mocked and dismissed concerns over cancel culture until it came for campus hooligans who blamed Israel for the Hamas slaughter of innocents.’
They couldn’t see that the cancel culture they advocated for the right could just as easily be turned against their own. That is exactly what we have always predicted would happen. The moment that one woke wing no longer sees the other woke wing as a victim; the moment they see them as an oppressor or as siding with violence, which inevitably happens when either side achieves power, they will start to impose on them the only tools they have to push back against positions they don’t like, which of course is cancellation and censorship. The left inevitably cancels itself, and that’s exactly what we are seeing happening.
