Israeli forces have killed the elusive leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, just days after infiltrating the network and simultaneously exploding thousands of Hezbollah pagers. What Israel just did changes the entire equation of the balance of power in the Middle East.
– Hassan Nasrallah, the long-time leader of Hezbollah, was killed by Israeli forces in airstrikes on Hezbollah’s headquarters in southern Beirut.
– The strikes in Lebanon were followed by Israeli attacks on Houthi targets in Yemen, responding to recent assaults by the Iranian-backed militants.
– The evolving situation may prolong and intensify the conflict, with Israel potentially feeling emboldened by its intelligence and military capabilities.
Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah for more than three decades, has been killed by Israeli forces. In what many are calling Israel’s most aggressive move yet against Hezbollah, several Israeli airstrikes rocked southern Beirut, demolishing buildings claimed by Israeli officials to be the headquarters of Hezbollah. Within hours, Israeli forces announced the death of Nasrallah which was later confirmed by Hezbollah officials.
Hours later, Israeli forces struck Houthi targets in Yemen in retaliation against recent attacks by the Iranian-backed militant group. As he watches the world burn, Biden had this to say about the latest strikes on Yemen:
Holy smokes Biden thought Israeli missile strikes in Yemen were WORKER STRIKES.
“They gotta settle the strike. I'm supporting the collective bargaining effort."

The sitting president of the United States referred to the strikes in Yemen as worker strikes. He just stood there and said that he supports the collective bargaining effort in Yemen. It’s sad to watch how he is being heartlessly abused. The legacy media is an intrinsic part of that abuse. Had Trump answered a question like that, there would have been 24/7 mockery and ridicule. They would have called on him to take a cognitive exam and called on his cabinet to invoke the 25th, but Biden said it and they are saying nothing.
The fundamental question surrounding the Nasrallah hit centers on how the Israelis knew where he was. Nasrallah was notorious for never disclosing his location. He rarely spoke or appeared in public, and foreign reporters talk often about the extraordinary security surrounding any interview they would have with him. They commonly described being blindfolded and driven around the city both before and after the interview, and their possessions were meticulously searched by his bodyguards. The fundamental question is: How did Israeli officials know where Nasrallah was in order to target him in that strike?
There are now reports that Israeli forces tracked Nasrallah with an unknown substance. Nasrallah reportedly met with a man traveling from Iran to Beirut who shook his hand and in turn transferred a trackable substance onto Nasrallah’s palm. The story has not been verified, and it remains in question what invisible substance can be traced remotely, but so many are perplexed as to how Israeli forces pulled this off, especially against the backdrop of the exploding pagers which took everyone by surprise.
All of this was the subject of a fascinating piece by the Estonian journalist Andrew Korybko entitled ‘Everyone was wrong about the latest Israeli-Lebanese War.’ He explains what Israel is doing here, and why it has caught Hezbollah forces so off guard. Korybko notes that the basic default policy position of Lebanon versus Israel in terms of their hostilities towards one another is a standard policy of mutually assured destruction. Both nations have enormous stockpiles of missiles. Hezbollah believed that they had achieved the advantage of mutually assured destruction, thus restraining both sides and their actions in any future conflict.
This reporter emphasizes that the reason Hezbollah has been so measured in its strikes against Israel is because no one wants to trigger mutually assured destruction. Despite all the rhetoric, Hezbollah really cannot do that much directly to Israel lest it sets off the events that would lead only to their own mutually assured destruction. However, what the Israeli forces figured out how to do is to actually bypass that stalemate with their superior intelligence capabilities.
The national intelligence agency of Israel have found many ways of penetrating into the inner workings of Hezbollah, including the pagers that were used by Hezbollah operatives, knowing where their stockpile of missiles were hidden, and now, that intelligence included the whereabouts of one of the most secretive leaders in the world. Israel is able to strike in such a way that doesn’t justify massive retaliation on Lebanon’s party.
They were able to detonate thousands of pagers almost simultaneously, killing over a dozen people and injuring upwards of 4,000, which is devastating. The cleverness or deceitfulness of Israeli intelligence in figuring out how to infiltrate the Hezbollah social order allowed them to bypass the striking limitations while crippling Hezbollah’s ability to comparably respond.
If Hezbollah unleashed their missiles, they would only ensure their own mutual destruction. But they don’t have the intelligence or technology to strike back using the Mousad’s penetrating tactics. Israel has seemingly figured out a way of neutralizing Hezbollah without triggering their own mutually assured destruction. Israel likely believes that they can attack the Axis of Resistance nations like Lebanon, Yemen, Syria and Iran with relative impunity. If they feel like they have figured out a way of taking out many of their enemies without fear of reprisal, then this will likely embolden Israel, and both prolong and escalate this conflict.
Up until this point, the popular thesis was that Israel planned on defeating its enemies in the region by dragging the US into the conflict, and goading Iran into the conflict. Thus far, both Iran and US forces have resisted that, so it looks like Israel has found another way. They have penetrated inside their enemies, particularly Hezbollah, and have been able to neutralize them in such a way that cannot justify a mutually assured destructive response. If that’s the case perhaps Israel found the soft spot of the Axis of Resistance.
