We have finally found something everyone can agree on with the Ukraine conflict! Russia has issued an arrest warrant for RINO Senator Lindsey Graham.

Regardless of one’s view on this conflict, it is hard to describe the US involvement in this conflict as “the best money we’ve ever spent.” Barely half the population is behind this effort, and this guy has the gall to say it’s the best money this country has ever spent. Russia didn’t take too kindly to that. The Russian Investigative Committee has announced a criminal case against Graham, accusing him of declaring the financial involvement of the United States as causing the death of Russian citizens.
Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, expressed difficulty imagining a greater shame for a country than having such senators, and Security Council Deputy Chairman and former president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev referred to Graham as an “old fool.” The arrest warrant applies only if Graham travels within Russian territory or through its airspace.
While most of the news coverage is focusing on how this is yet the latest in the escalating tensions between Russia and the United States, they conveniently ignore the escalating tensions between the permanent political class as represented by elites like Lindsey Graham and the people. Of course, the legacy media is going to downplay anything that undermines our ruling elite.
The American people today are more anti-war than we’ve ever been, even more than during the height of the Vietnam era. That’s especially true of the Republican rank and file, particularly in the South and the Midwest. Nobody would know that if they only listened to the likes of Lindsey Graham and the legacy media. Our permanent political class is obsessed with going to war; as seen by how they have wanted to go to war with Russia, China, and Iran, while the people are more united against such efforts than perhaps ever before.
The irony is that our unprecedented unity is provoking a massive division between the people and the permanent political class. The gap between the people and the ruling elite may be wider here than anywhere else on the planet. A recent Gallup survey found that trust in our nation’s fundamental institutions like the federal government, legacy news media, law enforcement, and elections is at an all-time low. It is one of the lowest for any nation in the world.
The US is going through a crisis of legitimacy. The stability of any government rests on a concept that Weber referred to as ‘legitimation.’ From Weber onwards, nation-state scholars have observed that the key characteristic of the modern state is the monopolization of violence within a given territory. As such, the nation-state is the symbol of ultimate authority, with no power or principality, secular or religious, above it. The only way that such an entity functions outside of tyrannical control is through the process of legitimation. The ability of the state to persuade the vast majority of its citizens of its trustworthiness and that the various administrations, institutions, and branches work for the good and the favor of the vast majority of the people.
The moment that confidence erodes, the stability of the government is in trouble. This is exactly what we are seeing. So the irony in all of this is that this arrest warrant issued by Russia is perhaps the one thing we can all agree with over this horrifically tragic conflict in Ukraine. It’s time we get rid of these RINOs and elites that plague our political class and elect people who represent our values, interests, and concerns, rather than ignore and denigrate them.
