The Rise of Socialism Coincides with Declining Education in America

Cliff Maloney, founder of The PA Chase and CEO of Citizens Alliance has offered insight on the rise of Zohran Mamdani that has gone viral in the media. Cliff notes that much of the fame and success of Mamdani can be attributed to the influence of the internet on younger generations through social media and accessing information through the internet rather than printed media.

Much of the message on socialism that younger people are exposed to today is positive and ignores the consequences of socialism that students once learned about from the many examples of socialism throughout history.

One of the major issues facing our country is the lack of education and cultural illiteracy of many younger Americans. One example of this is the support for Mamdani’s proposal for government-run grocery stores. He claims these stores will make food more affordable, but grocery stores already operate on very thin margins and make very little compared to many other business models. If the government takes control and sells goods at a loss, it isn’t creating savings but rather transferring the cost to taxpayers. When private grocers inevitably will not be able to compete with artificially low prices, they can no longer stay open.

This is the paradox pointed out by Maloney. With socialism we historically see a bait-and-switch tactic used by candidates to gain power and support. They promise free stuff, then use tax money to prop it up. When the private sector goes out of business from the weight of unfair competition, these leaders raise prices as they gain a monopoly.

The effects of socialism are far more severe than purely economic consequences. As pointed out by Maloney, this is an existential threat to the American way of life. A society that rejects the importance of hard work and merit for entitlement and the elusive promise of “equity” is on a dangerous path.

Argentina was previously under oppressive socialist rule, but under President Javier Milei, the country is improving. He has transformed the country from a socialist nightmare into a much safer and prosperous place with hope for continued economic growth for its people by freeing people from the control of the corrupt government. Argentina’s economy grew by 7.6% in the first quarter of 2025 as the government control continues to be slashed and productivity is rewarded, prosperity is following.

America needs to stop socialism before it is implemented anywhere in our country and causes the inevitable devastation, poverty, and suffering that follows socialist practices everywhere they are ever tried. We should demand that our schools teach history honestly, not ideologically, and in the meantime pick up the slack from our failing public schools and educate our children, grandchildren, and kids around us in our communities as we cannot count on government run institutions. We must reject policies that punish success and reward dependence and any candidates that support this. And we need to understand where Mamdani’s recommended socialism leads—not just politically, but culturally. As Cliff Maloney is drawing attention to, if we don’t take action, we may wake up in a country we do not recognize.
