In a shocking revelation, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has been accused of accepting over one million dollars from Chinese Communist Party operatives, only to then appoint them to her advisory board. This troubling development raises serious questions about her loyalties and the integrity of her administration.
- Mayor Karen Bass is under fire for receiving campaign donations from Chinese Communist Party-linked bankers and appointing them to positions of influence.
- This incident is part of a larger pattern of behavior that suggests Bass has long-standing ties to communist ideologies.
- The implications of this scandal could lead to calls for federal investigations and a reevaluation of foreign influence in American politics.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, often labeled an ultra-leftist who prioritizes illegal migrants over citizens, has just been exposed in a bombshell investigation by the Daily Caller. According to their findings, Mayor Bass took campaign donations totaling over one million dollars from two Chinese Communist Party-linked bankers—both connected to the United Front Work Department, China’s primary intelligence and influence operation. But here's the kicker: immediately after taking their money, she appointed them to her mayoral transition advisory team—the very group tasked with guiding policy and staffing decisions for her entire administration.
Gordon Chang, author of "Plan Red: China's Project to Destroy America," did not mince words when he said, "Los Angeles is now a wide-open city for China's communists. Karen Bass resists federal agents and welcomes China's communists. It's very clear where her sympathies lie." What’s fascinating—or better, disturbing—here is that this latest scandal isn't Karen Bass's first dance with communism. In 2017, she eulogized Communist Party USA leader Oneil Marion Cannon, calling him her "friend and mentor," who was "instrumental" in her early political career. She conveniently left out the fact that Cannon was a top member of the Communist Party USA for decades. When pressed about it, Bass claimed she "never shared his political ideology," but obviously, actions speak louder than words, and as it turns out, there’s quite a bit of action here.
Before that, Bass repeatedly praised Cuban dictator Fidel Castro and admitted that she was a leader in the Venceremos Brigade in the 1970s—a Marxist group started by Castro's regime specifically to "subvert American interests" and spread communism. It’s key to note that in order to join the Venceremos Brigade, one had to be confirmed as a bona fide Marxist-Leninist. So, what we’re seeing here with this latest bombshell from the Daily Caller is part of a much larger pattern of behavior that Karen Bass is going to have a very hard time weaseling her way out of.
At a larger level, what we're witnessing with Karen Bass is a textbook case of what political scientists call "elite capture"—a theory that explains how powerful foreign interests systematically infiltrate and corrupt domestic political systems. Elite capture occurs when foreign elites use their wealth and influence to "capture" key decision-makers, manipulating them to serve foreign interests rather than their own citizens. This strategy has been ongoing for centuries; think of how, biblically, King Herod served Rome rather than the Jewish people over which he ruled. But the strategy is always the same and rather simple: identify rising politicians willing to do anything for power, flood them with money and access, then cash in when they reach positions of power. In our time, the Chinese Communist Party has been at the forefront of this strategy worldwide.
According to the Daily Caller investigation, donations from United Front-linked actors are part of Xi's strategy to embed the CCP inside democratic systems. The ultimate goal is to build such deep financial and political leverage that they can demand their preferred candidates rise within government ranks. The Chinese Communist Party calls the United Front their "magic weapon" to defeat adversaries by infiltrating them from within. And someone like Karen Bass, who was already so attracted to Marxist ideas and sentiment, appears to have walked right into their trap—or perhaps, given her Marxist leanings, she was never trapped at all.
This exposed corruption is hitting at the worst possible time for Bass. While she was busy cozying up to Chinese operatives, she was simultaneously fighting federal immigration enforcement and calling ICE raids on criminal illegal aliens "experiments" she didn't ask to be part of. House Republicans have already called for FBI investigations into these Chinese-linked bankers for potential Espionage Act violations. Meanwhile, Bass has appointed the son of another Chinese Communist Party intelligence official to serve as the city's liaison for Asian-Americans. More and more people are seeing that the pattern here is clear: Los Angeles has been compromised from the top down.
Here's what makes this especially damning: Bass didn't just take money from these Chinese operatives—she created a system where they could legally funnel unlimited cash through her "Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles," a nonprofit she advises. East West Bank alone donated upwards of a reported one million dollars to this fund during Bass's tenure. There were several meetings arranged between Bass and Chinese-American entrepreneurs, and five of the ten attendees at one meeting later donated to her campaign. Plain and simple, this is influence peddling 101: this is a Clinton-Biden-style playbook that creates legal pathways for foreign money, where politicians take the cash and then reward their donors with access and positions of power.
Needless to say, Karen Bass represents everything wrong with America's political class. While working families struggle with inflation, crime, and homelessness, she’s busy serving foreign interests and communist operatives who want to see America weakened and divided. The CCP isn't funding American politicians out of generosity—they're making strategic investments in America's downfall. And politicians like Karen Bass are more than happy to cash the checks. This is what elite capture looks like in 2025: foreign adversaries buying American politicians wholesale, while those politicians pretend it's just "community engagement."
Clearly, the FBI needs to investigate Karen Bass immediately. Los Angeles voters deserve to know if their mayor is compromised by foreign intelligence operations. Congress needs to close the loopholes that allow foreign money to flow into American politics through nonprofits and community organizations. Because if action isn't taken now, Karen Bass won't be the last American politician to sell her city—and her country—to the highest bidder. So, the question remains: how many more American cities need to be sold to Communist China before enough is enough?
