Democrats are in a frenzy over the looming loss in a pivotal case, and Gavin Newsom has just let the cat out of the bag. In his own words, "Trump is stealing the midterms!" Stealing—yes, that's the exact term he used. Not "Republicans are winning" or "voters are fed up with Democrats." No, to them, any congressional seat they lose isn't democracy at work—it's theft. And right now, they're watching their hopes for a House majority in 2026 disintegrate before their eyes. Newsom thought he could salvage his party, but his actions have done just the opposite. He's practically ensured his own party's defeat, with an impending Supreme Court decision set to obliterate both Newsom and his party for good.
- Gavin Newsom's Proposition 50 aimed to counter Texas' redistricting but sparked a massive Republican retaliation.
- Red states are seizing the opportunity for mid-decade redistricting, leading to significant GOP gains.
- The Supreme Court's expected ruling on the Voting Rights Act could result in Republicans gaining up to 19 additional seats.
As many are aware, Gavin Newsom, often dubbed the Grease Monkey, thought that Proposition 50 would save his party from a 2026 midterms catastrophe. After the Texas legislature passed a new congressional map adding five new GOP seats, Newsom decided to retaliate with Prop 50. This proposition sought to amend the state's constitution, transferring the responsibility of drawing congressional districts from a non-partisan committee to partisan Democrats. This goes against what Californians voted for not long ago. But, of course, it's all in the name of saving democracy. Newsom's move was meant to counter Texas' redistricting, seat for seat. There was just one problem: this action triggered a redistricting war in red states that had previously hesitated to redistrict mid-decade. They know that if they retaliate against Newsom’s Prop 50, red states will win because blue states have already gerrymandered Republican seats out of existence.
Even Bill Maher missed the point, defending Newsom by claiming that Republicans drew first blood in the redistricting wars, unaware that Democrats have been gerrymandering for years, leaving no seats to flip blue, particularly in New England. Newsom, in his political ignorance, inadvertently incited massive redistricting retaliation among red states. Missouri, for instance, saw what Texas was doing and said, "Hold my beer." Their lone Democrat seat in Kansas City? Obliterated. Kansas followed suit, calling a special session to eliminate the other Kansas City Democrat seat. That's another pickup for the GOP. So Democrats are losing both Kansas City seats. Conservatively, this results in a pickup of five seats, including those in Kansas and Missouri, bringing us back to the Texas redistricting scenario.
But Newsom's actions have unleashed a full-scale red state retaliation. North Carolina just passed a new redistricting map adding another GOP seat. Ohio is strategically missing redistricting deadlines, allowing Republicans to redraw maps without constraints, leading to the loss of two more Democratic seats. That's a total gain of eight. Indiana is slow, but Vice President Vance will pressure them into gaining another seat or two. We're looking at a net gain of 10 seats, all thanks to Newsom. If he had ignored Texas, these states wouldn't have considered mid-decade redistricting. But they wouldn't let Newsom score cheap points with his base. Newsom thought he was saving his party for the midterms, but he guaranteed their loss.
The Democrats' panic over redistricting in red states is nothing compared to their meltdown over the upcoming Supreme Court decision, which could end their viability as a national party for good. Elie Mys-TELL is losing his mind over the imminent overturning of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) by the Supreme Court. Democrats have exploited the VRA to create racially gerrymandered districts to secure seats in Congress. Mys-TELL even introduced a new term, 'white media,' claiming it doesn't discuss Chief Justice Roberts as an enemy toward black people. This rhetoric comes from the far-left radicals at MSNBC, where Joy Reid's legacy of racist hate continues to thrive.
They're right to be worried. The Supreme Court is poised to overturn section 2 of the VRA, declaring every racially-gerrymandered district unconstitutional. If the Supreme Court rules as expected, Republicans could gain up to 19 additional House seats from VRA changes alone, as projected by liberal outlets. Combine those redistricted seats with the 19 from the VRA, and we're looking at over 30 seat gains before the midterms. Republicans could go from 220 to 250 overnight. These aren't swing seats; these are solid Republican seats, ensuring a permanent majority without flipping a single swing seat. It's yet another sign of how far to the right the nation has shifted. Without these tactics, Democrats can't gain power again.
This is why Democrats are panicking, and why Newsom is such a failure. Proposition 50 is merely an attempt to stave off inevitable seat pickups by California Republicans due to massive Latino defections. Latinos are moving right across the country, as seen in Miami-Dade and the Rio Grande districts in Texas. It's also happening in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and California. Newsom's Prop 50 is an attempt to dilute the Latino vote moving right, but it's only causing more Latinos to shift further toward the GOP. It's backlash in every imaginable way. More GOP seats are being picked up across red states because of this Prop 50 stunt, and more Latinos in California are defecting to the GOP. All this effort is wasted with the Supreme Court's VRA ruling overwhelming anything California Democrats can do. This is why Democrats are panicking, and Newsom is shouting about theft. They know what's coming.
