One wonders if anyone will be mourning when Britain collapses under the weight of its own absurdity!
And, of course, we can't overlook the predictable panic over the rise of Christian nationalism at a time when Islamic Democrats are taking over our cities. These headlines missed the true significance of what is unfolding in our nation and, indeed, across the globe. The American secular press is clinging to a bygone era, mistakenly believing that modernity equates to secularization and that progress means religion's retreat from the public arena. This outdated framework is the intellectual equivalent of prescribing leeches and bloodletting. The legacy media is shockingly out of touch with the world's reality.
We are witnessing an unprecedented religious renewal. Pentecostalism is the fastest-growing religious movement in history, spreading rapidly across Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Global South. More Muslims are attending mosques than ever, while Orthodox Christianity is experiencing a renaissance in Russia, Eastern Europe, and parts of the former Soviet bloc. In China, President Xi leads a Confucian revival, while India undergoes a massive Hindu nationalist renewal under Prime Minister Modi and the BJP. Christianity in Africa is growing faster than the population, the fastest-growing on the planet, indicating a massive wave of conversions. More Catholics attend mass worldwide than ever before. Rodney Stark, the late sociologist, asserted that we are amid the greatest religious renewal the world has ever seen.
What just transpired at the White House is the resurgence of Theopolitics — the revival of religion as the primary organizing logic of civilizational identity and political mobilization. This is not a temporary trend or a backlash that will fade if the left regains power. It is a profound structural transformation — a civilizational tidal wave just beginning to make landfall in American political life. Ironically, demographics are largely driving this extraordinary return of religion.Secular liberals have largely stopped having children, while religious conservatives are having more than ever. The data is clear: secularists and the religiously unaffiliated — the "Nones" — have the lowest fertility rates in the developed world. In the United States, white secular progressives reproduce at rates below replacement, around 1.6 children per woman, and in some subgroups, closer to 1.3. Meanwhile, theologically committed evangelicals, traditional Catholics, Mormons, and Orthodox Jews are reproducing at or above replacement levels. Globally, the most religiously devout populations — Pentecostal Africa, Muslim South Asia, Orthodox Christianity in Eastern Europe — are among the fastest-growing demographics on the planet.
This demographic shift is revealing the true nature of political order: every political order is, at its core, a theological order. This concept, explored by theorists like Carl Schmitt and Eric Voegelin, suggests that civilizations answer fundamental metaphysical questions, such as the nature of the human person and the source of legitimate authority, with inherently theological responses. Even the secular liberal order is a theological order, substituting Man for God, Progress for Providence, and the State for the Church.
