Will Pierce, a former Democrat fundraiser for both Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden publicly announced his defection from the Democrat Party and his joining up with the new Trump-inspired Republican Party. Will is not alone. The Washington Free Beacon just published an astonishing report that found that over the last 20 years four times as many Democratic state lawmakers have switched to the Republican Party than the other way around.
83 Democratic legislators have defected and joined the GOP in the last several years, compared with only 23 Republicans who became Democrats. Five of those blue-to-red switches happened just this year. Will Pierce has shown us why so many are switching parties. Will recognizes the key flaw, the fatal futility inherent in the Democrat Party. This is a key distinction for you to remember in talking about these woke friends and family members.
He rightly notes that the key to understanding the difference between the two parties hinges on this notion of identity politics. Identity politics unites supposed victim groups. This is why leftwing liberals have so far been successful in creating a coalition between LGBT activists on the one hand and Muslims on the other. One would think that these two groups were completely antithetical to one another, particularly when it comes to sexual ethics.
For leftist identity politics, both the LGBT community and the Muslim community share a common identity in that they are both the recipients of repression and discrimination in the West. If victimhood is the basis for unity in leftist identity politics, the victimizers are the legitimate objects of disdain and resistance.
Leftwing identity politics divide the nation into two fundamental groups of people: victims and victimizers, oppressed and oppressors. This is fundamentally the opposite of the America First MAGA movement, and that is because identity politics is completely reimagined in nationalist-populist terms that benefit all of the American people. Trump’s speeches include the rhetoric of identity politics which involves concerns over racial discrimination, injustice, prejudice, and disenfranchisement. Trump is very concerned about discrimination and disenfranchisement, but he redefines those concerns in nationalist-populist terms. He talks about ending economic discrimination as the result of unfair globalist trade deals. Trump focused on employment disenfranchisement in the disappearance of industrial and manufacturing jobs to a globalized division of labor.
Trump deals with race and identity, but from a very different vantage point than anyone in the legacy media can understand. For Trump, our common nationalist identity unifies us as one people. The policies of the government are supposed to benefit us as one people. So who gets excluded and disenfranchised in this nationalist-populist model? All those who are outside of America.
Trump sews division outside of the nation or between nations, whereas Democrat identity politics sews division inside the nation. Trump’s America First policies pit America against other nations, whereas Democrat identity politics pit one group of Americans (the victims) against another group of Americans (the victimizers). Democrat identity politics is an inherently divisive and debilitating worldview, and as we just saw with Will Pierce, a former Democrat operative, it’s causing more and more people to defect and join forces with American First! They want to embrace politics that benefit all Americans and leave behind an identity politics that by definition seeks to benefit only some.
