Ukraine BANS Orthodox Church?!

In a stunning move by the Ukrainian assembly, lawmakers have officially banned the historic Ukrainian Orthodox Churchover its ties to the Moscow Patriarch as President Putin has promised devastating revenge for Ukrainian forces invading the Russian region of Kursk. Things are heating up in the Eurasian region and we have the latest on the escalating tensions, both religious and military, between Russia, Ukraine, and NATO forces!

– Ukrainian lawmakers, influenced by President Zelensky, have voted to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as Kyiv continues distancing itself from Moscow.

– Ukrainian troops have launched a surprise offensive into Russian territory, specifically in the Kursk region, aiming to create a “buffer zone.”

– Russia is promising a massive retaliatory response to this offensive, viewing it as a NATO invasion rather than a purely Ukrainian one.

Ukrainian lawmakers, at the behest of President Volodimir Zelensky, have voted to officially ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as Kyiv continues to sever religious, social and institutional ties with Moscow. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church has for centuries been under the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarch as part of a Russian Orthodox civilizational sphere.

The Orthodox Church is an episcopal structure as it is structured around the authority of bishops. The main bishop of Russia, the Moscow Patriarchate, was for centuries the head of the Ukrainian Church. Now the church was granted back in 1990. This jurisdiction was historically seen as a sign of the spiritual and cultural fraternity between Ukrainians and Russians.

In 2019, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was granted complete independence from the Russian Orthodox Church by the Patriarch of Constantinople, Batholomew after he was lobbied heavily by the then president, Petro Poroshenko, a virulent anti-Russian president who described the severing of the two churches “a great victory for the devout Ukrainian nation over the Moscow demons.” And of course, the Russian Orthodox Church which was fraternally connected to the Ukrainian church for centuries, was absolutely furious that the Constantinople patriarch interfered in their jurisdiction in that way.

This has created an enormous rift in the Orthodox church, with the Russian church basically rejecting the legitimacy of Bartholomew. They see him as a puppet of Biden that is actively trying to steal Ukraine from what Putin called its spiritual space or its spiritual home in the sphere of Russian Orthodox civilization. Ukrainian lawmakers are responding in kind by banning the historic Ukrainian church from what’s left of their nation.

Ukrainian troops have successfully penetrated into Russian territory in the region of Kursk, in a surprise offensive that appears to have caught Russian forces off guard. According to Ukrainian officials, the incursion into Russia is for the purpose of creating what the Ukrainians are calling a ‘buffer zone’ on Russian soil. This is leading a number of pundits and military experts to ask how they propose to maintain this buffer zone inside Russia.

Ukraine has no aircrafts, massive reinforcements, or real supply lines. Even the legacy media that has been pushing pro-Ukrainian propaganda non-stop these last two and a half years, is starting to question the rationale of it. Russian officials have their own explanation which is that Ukrainian forces originally tried to capture the Kursk nuclear power plant, but failed in the operation. At this point, if that is true, that failure looks to be permanent.

Ukraine doesn’t have the forces to succeed in such a mission given Russia’s fortification of the area since Ukraine’s original attack. According to Russian sources as reported by Russia Today, the Ukrainians are taking extremely heavy losses. They are estimating upwards of 1,600 Ukrainian soldiers killed. That number has yet to be verified which Russian Times is admitting, but it appears that the Ukrainians are taking severe losses as a result of this incursion into Russia.

Russian forces are promising a massive retaliatory response to this offensive that may come as early as this week. The Kursk invasion is not so much a Ukrainian invasion as it is a NATO invasion. The armed forces that invaded Kursk were effectively a NATO force. The soldiers were not just Ukrainians. There were Poles and other international mercenaries as part of their unit, and the weapons such as tanks, the artillery, and the himars were all NATO-weapons.

We have to understand what happened at Kursk the way Putin and the whole of Russia understands it: NATO invaded Russia. Western forces invaded their spiritual sphere and now they are invading their spatial sphere. This is precisely the kind of incursion that Russian forces were waiting for to justify launching an all-out decisive assault on Ukrainian forces, which may in the end prove to be finally the collapse of what remains of the Ukrainian lines of defense in the Donbass.

Ukrainian Donbass lines are thinner and more brittle than they have ever been. It looks like Russia is poised to take advantage of that. We will most certainly all see what that retaliation involves, but Russia is not taking this as a mere desperate move on the part of Ukrainian forces starving for a win in the propaganda wars. This is a totally unwinnable war for NATO, let alone Ukraine. We may witness a retaliation that could devastate Ukrainian forces once and for all!
