– MMA star Conor McGregor announced his presidential run in Ireland with a populist message against the political elite.
– Populism reshapes the political divide from left vs. right to people vs. elites, which McGregor promotes for Ireland.
– The rise of the National Party shows growing support for nationalist populism in Ireland, and McGregor’s run could symbolize a political turning point.
MMA superstar Conor McGregor has announced that he is going to be running for president in his native Ireland. Here is the tweet that he sent out:
As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it. So as i said before, I would have all the answers the people of Ireland seek from these thieves of the working man, these disrupters of the family unit, these destructors of small businesses, and on and on…

Nationalist Populism is about to come to Ireland. The references to a corrupt political class are the hallmarks of populist rhetoric. The defining characteristic of populism is the way it reconfigures the political divide. Populism is characterized by a distinctively vertical political divide as opposed to a horizontal one. Instead of seeing the political divide as between the left vs the right, or liberal vs conservative, populism reconfigures that horizontal polarization vertically.
Far from being opposed to democracy like the elite media are constantly claiming, populism IS democracy. It is the outworking of the rule of the people as opposed to a corrupt oligarchical elite. That kind of rhetoric came from Conor McGregor. The fact he brought the family unit into this is very interesting. As Elon Musk has pointed out, unless we revitalize the family, we can kiss Western civilization goodbye.
Conor McGregor is not a populist. He is a civilizational populist. The problem with populism is that it’s what scholars call a thin ideology as its only defining characteristic is the redefinition of the political divide as vertical. Populism is the restructuring of the political divide. What populist movements inevitably do is import ideological content from something other than populism.
In this case, what’s growing stronger throughout our nation and in Europe is civilizational populism. Populations are increasingly embracing the need for border security, economic security, and cultural security, particularly in our globalist world that tends to erode all of those securities. This is why throughout the West, particularly in Europe, Christianity is once again returning to the public square.
Even in the most secularized parts of Europe like Sweden and the Netherlands, Christianity is reemerging as the preeminent principle for the recovery of a distinctively European culture and politics. That preeminence, even in the most secularized parts of Europe, is once again placing Christianity and Christian identity right smack in the middle of the public square.
The corrupt elite and political class are guilty of selling out our civilization for their financial gain and prestige. This move by McGregor could not have come at a better time. Ireland has taken a hard turn to the left over the last five years. It’s been a rather shocking turn for a country that was always considered to be a pillar of Catholic conservatism.
🇮🇪🗳️ It's official: Patrick Quinlan has been elected! pic.twitter.com/uZQjcq2wUJ

In June, a new party, the National Party, won seats in Ireland. Patrick Quinlan was elected to the Dublin City Council, Ireland’s capital city, and independent candidate Malachy Steenson, who was supported by the National Party, was elected to the Dublin city council, proving the powerful grassroots movement that Ireland’s nationalist populists were amassing. Many commentators are noticing that this shift to the right for Ireland is happening in the shadow of a horrific stabbing of three children and a school care assistant in Dublin at the hands of an Algerian migrant last year.
Happening now: There is an outpouring of rage on the streets of Dublin, Ireland as the people demand action against mass immigration following a mass stabbing incident against children. pic.twitter.com/yh7BM0eU8p

Riots broke out throughout the city, with more Irish citizens saying they had enough of their liberal globalist government’s migration policies. To make things even worse, Irish officials blamed Irish citizens for the riots. Given the rise of populist movements all over Europe, this didn’t work. The Prime Minister of Ireland has since resigned, and the nation as a whole is turning back to the right. This announcement from Conor McGregor may provide the champion they need to restore sanity to their government, and Ireland back to its unique culture and traditions!
