Are Young Women Starting to Realize that Feminism Lied to Them?

Several videos have gone viral on social media depicting women who are frustrated about the modern dating scene. One woman expressed that she was frustrated that she does not have love and described this as something she really wants and is missing.

She is clearly unhappy and confused about how to get what she wants. Most people would feel bad for her and anyone like her in this situation. Nobody wants to be alone, and it’s sad that she and many other young women seem to feel this lonely and confused about how to find a partner. She says she doesn’t understand what she is doing wrong because she is successful and independent in her career and has done a lot of self-care.

She then said, “The only thing I am missing in my life is someone to enjoy it with.” It’s sad to think about feeling this way, but many people have pointed out that this is one of the major downfalls of spending your younger years focusing on yourself and building the exact life you want first and then looking for a man to fit into that who has probably already built his own life and is only now looking for a woman to fit into it. This can be a lot more complicated and difficult than finding a person to share your life with and building a life you both enjoy together from the start.

This woman expresses similar sentiments about the current dating scene. She says she is trying to go out and meet people and is open to dating and is frustrated by the lack of success she has had while looking for someone. It’s difficult to see so many young people giving up on dating and having such a negative experience with trying to find a life partner.

At this point, we are seeing a lot of frustration over the dating scene among men and women. It seems that both genders are having an increasingly difficult time finding someone to date. This certainly can be attributed to extremist ideologies such as feminism and the ‘red pill’ movement. We are also seeing the average age of people’s first marriage and child raising dramatically over the past 50 years.

The average age that a woman would get married ranged from 20-22 from 1890-1980. This sharply began to rise after 1980, and as of 2023, the average age of a woman getting married for the first time was over 28. The average man’s age at his first marriage ranged from 26-22 from 1890-1990 and began to sharply rise after the ‘90s. As of 2023, the average age of a man’s first marriage is over 30.

In 1970, the average age of a mother birthing her first child was 21.4 years old. By 2000, the average age increased to 25. In 2023, this increased to 27.3. We are seeing a steady increase in the age women and men marry and have children. This is often attributed to the increase in contraceptives and female education and professionalism. A University of Washington researcher who was studying this issue said, “Policies that increase access to education and family planning are generally thought to accelerate fertility decline by empowering individuals, particularly girls and women, to achieve their own desires in life.”

This report has essentially said the quiet part out loud. Women are ‘empowered’ to ‘achieve their own desires in life’ by contraception and higher education and professionalism. This is obviously NOT an admirable lifestyle as being empowered to achieve our own desires leads only to corruption, sin, and death. Jeremiah 17:9 tells us that the heart is deceitful above all and is beyond cure. Nobody should be devoting their lives to achieving their own desires, because these will not be of God and will not lead to flourishing. Reports similarly show that the rates of depression have increased by 50% from 1990 to now. Adults are clearly increasingly adopting liberal views of family and gender, contraception, and selfishness at the same time that reported satisfaction in life and depression rates are worsening.

Young people simply need to reject the lies of postmodernity, feminism, and hedonism and embrace the biblical and traditional teachings on gender roles. This does not mean that everyone needs to get married as soon as possible, have as many kids as possible, or that women should not work or receive higher education. It is essential that both women and men value family, marriage, and selflessness rather than embracing a life of self-centeredness, wasteful spending, and pleasure as so many young adults currently are.

This kind of life does not lead to fulfillment for either sex, which we are increasingly seeing as frustrated men and women are expressing their disillusionment online. Many young adults are beginning to realize that the postmodern ideas on gender and family that they have believed since they were young will not lead to a life of happiness, fulfillment, or joy. Hopefully, we will see the younger generations learning from the warnings of crying women on TikTok and focus their lives and purpose on something other than themselves and their desires.
