Twitter Removes Woke Pronoun Restrictions From Safety Policy!

Twitter revised its Hateful Conduct policy earlier this month, and liberals are furious! This update removed a woke pronoun use policy added in 2018. In October 2018 Twitter updated its Safety Guidelines with a sentence clarifying hateful conduct to include the use of names or pronouns transgender people do not associate with. Twitter Safety added this statement to their “Slurs and Tropes” section under the violations of their Hateful Content Policy. After the update in 2018, the Slurs and Tropes section read, ‘We prohibit targeting others with repeated slurs, tropes or other content that intends to degrade or reinforce negative or harmful stereotypes about a protected category. This includes targeted misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals.’ The last sentence was added in 2018 and has just been removed from Twitter’s Safety Guidelines.

This change appears to have taken place sometime between April 7th and 8th, but users just began to notice that the sentence defining “misgendering or deadnaming of transgender individuals” as a violation of the Safety Guidelines has been removed. Twitter’s updated policy affirms that attacks based on gender identity are not permitted, but removes “misgendering or deadnaming” as a form of attack that they would remove or ban. Of course, many liberals are upset over this.

Liberals and the woke media have been quick to condemn this policy amendment. Many people have claimed that being misgendered is traumatic and even abusive and therefore believe people must be protected by social media platforms’ safety policies. Angry liberals have claimed that Twitter allowing ‘misgendering’ makes it an unsafe platform for users. The backlash that Elon Musk and Twitter have received over this issue shows that many people have completely lost touch with reality. Twitter is committed to freedom of expression, so removing this sentence which prevents speech that does not cause harm is in alignment with the site’s mission. Twitter does not aim to restrict speech in favor of a political narrative, so the amendment of this policy is common sense. One user who was banned from Twitter in 2020 but was reinstated to the site after Elon Musk took over Twitter said, ‘This is a step toward living in reality and having policy rooted in Truth instead of emotion.’

In 2019, journalist Megan Murphy was banned from Twitter for referring to a transgender person by their biological gender’s pronouns and sharing this tweet: “Women aren’t men.” The previous Twitter administrators perceived this as unacceptable and hateful speech and banned Murphy. Her reasonable and obviously true statement should not have caused her to be banned from any platform, so Murphy sued Twitter. Under Elon Musk, Twitter seeks to promote open dialogue and freedom of expression, so they removed the sentence that ‘protected against misgendering.’ This is amazing news because people no longer have to fear being banned from Twitter if they share their political beliefs or simple facts.

This Safety policy change is another one of Twitter’s positive developments for conservatives. Under Elon Musk, Twitter has become a more inclusive place by allowing people to share content more openly and without banning users from sharing conservative beliefs. The social media platform has removed the restrictions on freedom of expression implemented by the former owner and administration. This is an important win for conservatives who can now use Twitter to express basic biological realities without being banned from the platform for ‘hate speech.’
